Sequestration of carbon as BioChar, incorporated into our soils, will help hold more water and nutrients, making them available to organisms, including plants, and further across the food web, while keeping the carbon permanently sequestered. As trees and plants uptake water and nutrients, they inhale carbon dioxide, dividing it into carbon and oxygen. Exhaling the oxygen, plants utilize the carbon to grow and exchange carbon with soil organisms for more nutrients.

Reducing volatile compounds typically associated with open burning, creating BioChar stabilizes carbon for sequestration. Instead of burning biomass to ash, which releases significant amounts of carbon dioxide and methane, BioChar production uses clean burning pyrolysis. This process minimizes harmful emissions and helps keep our air clean. By preventing the slow decomposition of biomass into carbon dioxide and methane, Biochar production contributes to a healthier atmosphere.

BioChar is used to filter water clean. Landscapes covered by a layer of BioChar would filter all water, rain or irrigated, that passed through. Studies have shown it can hold up to many times its weight in water.
